Membership into the National Honor Society is based upon Leadership, Scholarship, Character, and Service. All applicants must be a sophomore, junior, or senior at Anahuac High School. The student must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and be enrolled in at least one Honors/Pre AP/AP class this year.
Members of National Honor Society must complete 30 hours for our various service projects throughout the year so that they can be eligible to wear the NHS stole at the end of the year but also remain in good standing within the organization. For members trying to run for officer positions for the 2018-2019, 50 hours is a requirement. There are plenty of opportunities for all members. Some examples of NHS community service projects are Blood Drives at AHS, Smith Point Catfish Lunch Fundraiser, GatorFest Sugarbelle and Swamper Mascots, opportunities at the Anahuac Refuge Center, after school tutoring, Open House helpers, Freshman orientation aides, food drives for Christian Caring Center and Houston food bank, volleyball, basketball, baseball concession stands, Texas Children's Annual Halloween and Christmas parties, Youth Project Show helpers. We will only accept 4 hours for any individual volunteering on solo projects. The main premise behind this is to promote team work within the National Honor Society.
